Terence Lee is a journalism student at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. As a journalism student, he has already contributed articles to numerous Singaporean publications.
2008 - As a youth editor with The Online Citizen, I broke the story about the censorship of NTU's news media regarding the visit of Chee Soon Juan to campus grounds. The article sparked off a NTU student protest at Speaker's Corner (of which I was a part of as well), which received coverage from AFP, Reuters, The New Paper, Today, and The Straits Times. That incident demostrated the power of new media as a communication tool to reach the masses.
2008 - I help founded Enquirer.sg, NTU's first student-run and student-owned news website featuring stories that are not told in The Nanyang Chronicle. However, I left the team to focus fully on The Online Citizen.
2008 - As a blogger, I had the honour of making it to the top ten of the inaugural Omy Singapore Blog Awards' Most Insightful Blog category, trumping a selection of 122 blogs. My blog touched upon political, media, religious, and environmental issues, as well as revealing more dramatic aspects of my life and identity as a journalism student.
2008 - As a columnist at The Nanyang Chronicle, my article "Save the planet: Recycle less" was syndicated for the 31st March edition of the national news daily My Paper. Subsequently, I was offered the post as the next chief editor of the Chronicle, but I turned it down, citing existing commitments with TOC.
2006 -As an editor of my army unit's ORD magazine, I had the difficult task of conceptualising, writing, and producing the publication. Working under the tight schedule of one month, and with other work commitments to handle, the pressure was intense. But with the help of a great team of writers, the full-colour magazine was printed and delivered on the ORD dinner itself, providing the NSFs with a great souvenir to bring home. All this was done with me having no prior experience.
Currently, he serves as the deputy editor of The Online Citizen (TOC) on a voluntary basis. TOC is the top socio-political blogsite in Singapore, amassing more than 5,000 hits a day.
